From Sri Muktsar Sahib to 34 States: The Asepsis Journey

Asepsis Products — from Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab to 34 Indian states. Founded by Hardik Dabra.
🔍 Quick Answer: Asepsis Products started as a local distribution business in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab, and grew into a pan-India D2C brand serving 10,000+ customers across all 34 states. Founded and run solo by Hardik Dabra, the brand delivers Advance Phenyl (250ml makes 5L, ₹180), Super Strong Phenyl (250ml makes 2L, ₹120), and Glass Cleaner (250ml makes 5L, ₹180) with free delivery above ₹500. 15,000+ parcels. 700+ kg plastic saved.

Sri Muktsar Sahib is a mid-sized city in Punjab — known for its historical Gurudwara, its agricultural surroundings, and its tight-knit community. It is not a typical startup address. Most D2C brands in India are headquartered in Bangalore, Mumbai, or Delhi — close to investors, logistics hubs, and the startup ecosystem. Asepsis is headquartered in Sri Muktsar Sahib because that is where I, Hardik Dabra, am from. And because building from here, rather than relocating, was a deliberate choice.

Phase 1: Local Distribution (The Foundation)

Asepsis did not launch with a website, a Shopify store, or a Facebook ad campaign. It started with conversations — with local shopkeepers, households, and small institutions in Sri Muktsar Sahib and the surrounding area who needed cleaning products and were open to trying a concentrate format that made their money go further.

This local phase was essential for a reason that no amount of market research could have replaced: it forced direct contact with the actual objections people had to concentrate-format cleaning products. The most common one was not price or fragrance or brand trust — it was unfamiliarity with the format itself. People did not know how to use a concentrate. They did not trust that a small 250ml bottle could genuinely produce 5 litres of effective cleaner. They assumed the diluted version would be weak.

Solving this objection — not with marketing but with demonstration and education — became the core of what Asepsis does. Show people, do not just tell them. This is why every Asepsis product label leads with the dilution in large text. This is why the early Facebook content was how-to videos rather than promotional claims.

Phase 2: The D2C Shift — Facebook as the First Platform

The move to direct-to-consumer selling happened when it became clear that local distribution had a ceiling — both in reach and in margin. To grow beyond Sri Muktsar Sahib, Asepsis needed a channel that could simultaneously reach customers and educate them about the format.

Facebook was the right platform for two reasons: the audience demographics matched the Asepsis customer profile — households across Tier 2 and Tier 3 India who care about home cleanliness, value for money, and practical daily routines — and video content on Facebook allowed Asepsis to demonstrate the product rather than just describe it.

The early Facebook content strategy was simple: real demonstrations of the product in real homes, showing exactly what 250ml makes, how the floor looks after mopping, and what the cost works out to per session. No studio production. No professional voiceover. Just clear, honest product demonstration to an audience that could immediately relate to the cleaning challenges being shown.

The results validated the approach. Sales grew from local to regional to pan-India. West Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh emerged as the top markets — East India's high humidity and strong cleaning habit culture made it a natural fit for a product positioned on daily disinfection value.

Phase 3: Shopify, Systems, and Scale

Moving to Shopify Basic gave Asepsis the infrastructure to handle pan-India orders at scale — logistics, COD, customer data, and order management across all 34 states. The Shopify platform also enabled the Google organic presence that has been growing alongside Facebook as a discovery channel.

15,000+ parcels delivered. A 17% RTO rate — lower than the D2C category average but an area of continuous work through customer communication and order confirmation improvements. A 23% repeat purchase rate that reflects genuine product satisfaction — customers who tried Asepsis once and found it worked came back without being retargeted.

Building this from Sri Muktsar Sahib, without external funding, and as a solo founder has meant that every decision has had to justify itself on actual results rather than on growth metrics that defer profitability. That constraint has been a discipline that I believe has made Asepsis a better business — product-first, customer-first, and profitable at scale rather than dependent on future funding rounds.

What "Pan-India" Actually Means for Asepsis

Reaching all 34 states is a milestone worth pausing on — not as a number but as a reality. Asepsis products are being used to clean floors in Kohima, Nagaland. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In Dehradun, Uttarakhand. In Raipur, Chhattisgarh. In Agartala, Tripura. In every climatic zone India has — from the dry heat of Rajasthan to the high humidity of Assam to the cold winters of Himachal Pradesh.

The product works across all of these environments because the fundamental cleaning need — effective, affordable daily floor disinfection that does not generate unnecessary plastic waste — is universal. The concentrate format that made sense in Sri Muktsar Sahib makes exactly as much sense in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata and Chennai.

The Number I Am Most Proud Of

It is not 15,000 parcels. It is not 10,000 customers. It is 700+ kg of plastic saved.

Because that number is the mission made tangible. Every kilogram of plastic saved represents a household that chose concentrate over pre-diluted — that chose to add their own water at home rather than paying to transport water in a plastic bottle from a factory. Multiply that across every Asepsis customer over the coming years and the number becomes genuinely significant at the scale of India's plastic waste problem.

Reduce Plastic, Not Hygiene. That is where we started in Sri Muktsar Sahib. That is where we are going — across all 34 states and beyond.
