Floor Cleaning After Construction or Renovation — Complete Guide for Indian Homes
Share
After any home renovation — tiling, plastering, painting or plumbing work — the cleaning challenge is completely different from regular home cleaning. Construction leaves behind cement dust, paint drops, plaster splashes, tile adhesive residue, and general debris that require a specific sequence and stronger products to remove properly.
Stage 1: Dry Removal — Before Any Water
Most important rule: Never wet-mop cement dust directly. Cement dust mixed with water forms a thin concrete paste that bonds to tile surfaces and is far harder to remove than dry dust. Always dry sweep or vacuum first.
- Broom sweep all large debris into bags for disposal
- Fine cement dust: dry mop or vacuum — do not wet mop yet
- Loose paint flakes: dry scrape with plastic card first
- Grout haze on new tiles: let cure fully (48 hours minimum after tiling) before wet cleaning
Stage 2: Super Strong Phenyl Deep Treatment
After all dry debris is removed, Super Strong Phenyl (250ml makes 2L) is the right product for the deep wet clean — its higher concentration handles construction residue that regular floor cleaner cannot:
- Cement haze on tiles: Super Strong Phenyl mop, 10-minute dwell, firm mop again
- Paint drops on floor: Plastic card scrape first, then Super Strong Phenyl + 10 minutes + firm cloth
- Grout lines: Super Strong Phenyl + soft toothbrush. See our grout cleaning guide
- Tile adhesive residue: Super Strong Phenyl + 20-minute dwell + soft scraper
Stage 3: Final Advance Phenyl Mop
Once all construction residue is removed, do a full home mop with Advance Phenyl (250ml makes 5L, 5ml per 5L bucket). This removes any remaining product residue, kills construction-phase bacteria (workers, outdoor footwear), and gives the home its first fresh, clean smell — ready to move in.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should I wait to mop new tiles after installation?
Wait minimum 48 hours for tile adhesive and grout to fully cure before wet mopping. Wet cleaning too early can weaken grout joints.
Can I use Super Strong Phenyl on new marble floors after renovation?
Use diluted (1:3 with water) on marble — never undiluted. Marble is sensitive to high pH. See our marble floor guide.
